Who doesn’t love fresh flowers given to them on Valentine’s Day?  I love fresh flowers all the time of course.

Roses are typically the traditional flower given on this lovey day.  But how about something a little different?

I came across this florist designers website, Studio Choo. There is some amazing inspiration for different flowers to consider aside from Roses.

How about Sweet Peas for your Sweet Pea?

Did you know that Sweet Peas symbolize pleasures, and Peonies symbolize happy life and happy marriage.  Now I understand why my Grandfather planted several peonies in the garden for my Grandmother – the love of his life.

Ranunculus are so pretty too!  They are a reminder that Spring is coming.

If your heart is set on Roses, how about mixing them up with Spring seasonal favourites such as Tulips?

Did you know that certain colours of Roses have meanings?

Red Roses – Unconscious beauty, love, desire
White Roses – Purity, innocence, heavenly
Pink Roses – Grace, happiness, gentleness
Yellow Roses – joy, friendship, promise of a new beginning
Orange Roses – desire and enthusiasm
Lavender Roses – love at first sight
Coral Pink Roses – friendship, modesty, sympathy

And a red Tulip symbolizes a declaration of love.  Yellow Tulips symbolize a sunshine in your smile.

I could go on and on.  But one things for sure, I would like a bunch of Peonies in assorted colours from my husband.

The Milly Apron

To honour my Grandma Milly, I designed this apron.  Like many Grandmother’s, she always had her apron on.  She was a sweet lady.  She always loved playing cards, riding roller coasters, and go swimming at the cottage with my sisters and I.  And she always had a chocolate cake for us.  Very fond memories.  I thought that this sweet Milly apron is a perfect reflection of her sweet character.

Happy Pink Tuesday!


Happy Pink Tuesday!   Did you know that according to astrological traditions in Thailand, pink is the lucky colour for Tuesday?  Based on this Thai tradition, each day of the week is given a lucky colour.  In fact, it is quite customary for Thai people to dress according to these colours.  I can just imagine everyone in Thailand all dressed in a pretty pink today.

It’s amazing how much symbolism is tied to colours.  Aside from symbolism, colour connects us to history, even political parties.  Remember the Avocado green kitchens that were so popular in the 1970’s?  If we were in Thailand, Wednesday would be the day to celebrate green!

But let’s think pink.  How about a pink kitchen?  That was the trend in the late 1950’s.  I searched for a more modern take on a pink kitchen, but I have yet to find one.  The one below is very feminine.  According to a news article, this Chicago kitchen has not been touched in 59 years.  It’s immaculate!  The house was sold in February, 2015, so I imagine it has undergone some updates.

Kitchen Loves Green Gingham

Aside from the bedroom, kitchens are one of the most used rooms in a house.  It’s an important room too.  We use it to cook meals to nourish ourselves and our loved ones.  We also use it to entertain.  Thanks to the open concept kitchen, the new modern kitchen makes it easier to host a party and be with all the guests.

The kitchen below is so pretty.  I’m a huge fan of gingham so I adore the use of gingham on the ceiling.  The high ceilings and open concept helps this kitchen to pull this off.  I love the baskets that are casually resting on top of each other.  I could cook in here any day!

Of course, if there’s going to be cooking, there has to be an apron.  I think one of the below would be a perfect match!
